The 154,407-ton, 3,634-passenger Freedom of the Seas debuted in May 2006 as the biggest cruise liner in the world. The ship introduced a new class of ships for Royal Caribbean, surpassing Cunard's Queen Mary 2 by 7,000 tons and carrying 1,014 more guests. Besides her size, Freedom of the Seas also made waves in other ways. She was the first to feature a surf simulator, a regulation-sized boxing ring, an interactive water park for children and even a barbershop. Yet in many ways, Freedom of the Seas was an evolution of the Voyager class, which made its own headlines when it debuted with biggest-at-sea status back in 1999. The design is nearly the same and the promenade is back, as is the rock-climbing wall, the ice-skating rink, Johnny Rockets, the Promenade Cafe, Ben and Jerry's, etc. It is nearly as if Voyager of the Seas cruise liner was simply super-sized, and beefed up with innovative spaces and concepts.
Freedom of the Seas itinerary program is based on year-round 7-day Eastern and Western Caribbean cruises from Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades, Florida). In May 2018, the ship will be repositioned from Florida to Puerto Rico. Between May 2018 and March 2019, the ship will be homeported in San Juan Puerto Rico for roundtrip departures.
Freedom Of The Seas has a total of 1825 cabins (of which 120 Suites, 724 Balcony rooms, 509 adjoining) in 28 grades. Most Freedom of the Seas staterooms are 185-200-sq.foot balcony rooms and 160-sq.foot insides (584). 32 are the wheelchair accessible rooms. The largest aboard Freedom of the Seas are the Royal Suites (1360 ft2).
