Carnival Cruise Lines (CCL) is a US cruise company based in Doral, Florida (Miami suburb). The company was originally private (independent), founded in 1972 by Ted Arison (1924-1999). The initial public offering of 20% common stock in 1987 provided capital for fleet expansion. Today, CCL (global market share 22% / passengers and 9% / revenue) is one of the 10 brands owned by Carnival Corporation - world's largest passenger shipping company (followed by RCCL Royal Caribbean). As of 2018, Carnival Corporation controls around 39% of the global ship cruising market (revenue) and around 48% (passengers), with full ownership of 9 brands (AIDA, CCL, Costa, Cunard, Holland America, P&O / UK, and Australia, Princess, Seabourn).
