What to take with you on a cruise ship?
A sea cruise is not just a vacation at sea or a long journey, it is a little more - it is a journey on a comfortable liner. During a cruise, the world around you shrinks to the size of the ship, and at the same time, the boundless expanses of the sea open up before you. To make the journey interesting, safe and eventful, you should carefully prepare for it.
So, what you need to take with you on a sea cruise:
1. Documents
• passport (with visas for the countries you plan to visit during your trip, if required);
• boarding pass for the cruise;
• medical insurance policy;
• cash and bank cards (international cards are usually accepted);
• an original power of attorney from the other parent (for children traveling with one parent) or an original power of attorney from both parents (for children traveling without parents).
2. Clothes and shoes - you will have to choose them very carefully.
Cruise lines often have specific dress codes for different times of day or events. Casual wear is casual clothing, think swimsuits and cover-ups for lounging by the pool, shorts, light pants, t-shirts, and sundresses/dresses. For day cruises, prioritize comfort. Choose breathable fabrics like cotton or linen for your clothing.
Formal dinner attire: Men are advised to wear a business suit and women are advised to wear elegant evening attire.
Warm things: a sweater or jacket if the route involves cold places or evening walks on the deck.
Accessories are key. For example, a scarf or shawl serves a dual purpose: adding a touch of style to your daytime outfit and providing warmth when the evenings get chilly.
Hats - A cruise will give you a lot of impressions if you are able to enjoy many hours of walks and relaxation on the open deck. The sun is your friend, but it is best to protect yourself from direct sunlight. Hats with wide brims are necessary for protection from the sun.
Shoes: You should have a pair of shoes and casual clothes that will suit you for a day on deck, flip-flops or sandals for the pool, a pair of sports shoes for the gym, comfortable shoes for walking in ports, and shoes for evening wear. High heels are not the best choice for a cruise, but girls are usually not ready to give up heels, so try to at least reduce them.
Sunglasses - are crucial for protecting your eyes and completing your fashion look.
To maximize luggage space while maintaining style, focus on combination items that mix and match well to create multiple outfits from just a few items.
3. Medicines - On a cruise, you will have limited access to pharmacies, as many medicines are not sold without a prescription or are expensive, so it is important to take with you all the medicines that you take constantly. Of course, there are always qualified doctors on board cruise ships, but their services will cost you a solid amount of money. However, if you have insurance - there is nothing to fear, it covers all expenses. But in order not to be upset about unforeseen expenses, stock your first aid kit with first aid supplies, drugs against intestinal infections, analgesics, antivirals, antispasmodics, allergy remedies, sunburn remedies, take blood pressure regulating drugs, a broad-spectrum antibiotic, and don't forget a blood pressure monitor.
4. Cosmetics and hygiene products: sunscreen, personal hygiene products (toothpaste, shampoo, shower gel, etc.), a minimum set of cosmetics.
5. Smartphone and charger, power bank, camera, power adapter (check the standard on your cruise ship). As a rule, all ships have both European and American power outlets, but there may not be enough of them.
6. Leisure items: book/e-book, headphones.
7. Backpack - ideal for all types of travel. Documents, medicines and a camera are best carried in a backpack. This will free up your hands and reduce the strain on your back. If you are going to visit port cities, plan walks and excursions, then you will definitely appreciate a backpack for its practicality.
8. Hand luggage – for items that will be needed until your luggage is delivered to the cabin.
